ARQU 3131 - Fundamentos de Diseño I

Spring 2020

This course is taught for first year Environmental Design students, as their first design studio. Due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, these students started their University journey completely online. I don't think any student or professor was entirely prepared for the situation, but I am confident to say that learning and great projects were possible; it just took a lot of extra hours and love.  We started with hand drawn compositions made from Gestalt Principles and architectural introductory vocabulary. An 8"x8" composition was selected from each student, which turned it into a 3D physical model. They had an imaginary 8"x8"x8" dimension restriction for their model. They later extracted close-ups of their model which led them to create a spatial sequence. The spatial sequence had to be completely inclusive, taking into consideration: physical disabilities and enjoyment for everyone.

*Below are examples of the semester's result from students: Ana Pericas, Eneyeliris Valencia, and Marleny Baez.
